    NEW REVISION AVAILABLE

The new revision of OpenSim for Craft World is now available after the grid upgrade.

It contains some interesting innovations in friendship, IM and teleport between different grids that have an OpenSim version compatible with ours (like OSgrid, etc.)

Linux users, who have an old version of Mono (prior to 2.6) can have troubles with this new revision. We recommend upgrading it at least to the 2.6 version but preferably the 2.10, the 2.6 version having some problems in memory managment.

Further information and tutorial for Ubuntu will be published in the Craft Wiki as soon as possible, in Italian and English.

The change of coordinates that we announced has been cancelled.

Craft was based on one server, 32 bit system, quad core processor, 8MB RAM not well managed by a 32 bit system. The new central structure of Craft is based on two servers, 64 bit systems, 4x2 core processors, 24GB Ram (each one), hard disk 2 TB. One of then is exclusively dedicated to the assets.

    GRID IN MAINTENANCE

August 13th

Work in progress: moving the database to the new servers and preparing it, compiling a new revision of OpenSim.
For Linux users: the new OpenSim revision may have troubles or not work at all with  Mono 2.4. Otherwise Mono 2.6 is not very good and many people report on problems with it. We suggest to compile the latest Mono 2.10.2. Soon a tutorial about how to compile it on Ubuntu.

Another important issue: now OpenSim works well on Linux 64 bit, if you can upgrade to a 64 bit system you will have a better memory management on your server.

THE GRID IS CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADE
Having received some recent feedback about troubles with the grid assets, we have decided to bring forward the scheduled upgrade of the Grid. This means that it is possible that the Grid will be closed for more than the one day which we initially planned.

DOWNLOAD THE UPGRADE - SCARICA L'AGGIORNAMENTO

The last version of OpenSim for Craft is running on the central server, you can download it to upgrade your servers.

To upgrade, unzip the file, a folder called 0.7.2-15366 will be created. Configure the database connection in the file /bin/config-include/GridCommon.ini, then copy and paste the content of the folder /bin/Regions from the old to the new version. In /bin/OpenSim.ini, configure the instance port (9000 by default). These the basic things to do. Have fun.

L'ultima versione di OpenSim per Craft è già installata sul server centrale, potete scaricarla e aggiornare i server.

Per l'aggiornamento scompattate il file zip, verrà creata una directory chiamata 0.7.2-15366.  Configurate la connessione al database nel file /bin/config-include/GridCommon.ini, quindi copiare il contenuto della directory /bin/Regions dalla vecchia alla nuova versione. In /bin/OpenSim.ini configurate la porta dell'istanza (9000 di default). Queste le operazioni essenziali.Buon divertimento.

    Complete renewal of Craft in August

From middle August until September there will be a complete renewal of Craft World. It will involve:

  • New cenrtal servers: a big one more powerful than the current one and a little slave server dedicated to do daily backups
  • A new website with many integrated modules, and among them a forum
  • New OpenSim version (new revision of 0.7.2Dev) compatible with the new communication tools between grids (IM, friendship, TP etc.)
  • A gradual renewal of the servers that host the rented sims, installing new 64 bit systems and the latest version of mono
  • Administration tools for tenants of the sims (allowing them to make oars, restart the sim and other things)

We will need the commitment of people who manage their own servers in Craft to upgrade mono and install the new OpenSim revision.
A tutorial will be published soon to explain what to do.

All regions are back online and new regions are joining the grid.

Tutte le regioni sono di nuovo online e nuove regioni si stanno aggiungendo

On 2nd March, owing to a serious error during maintenance, the Craft Database was damaged. The users and their inventories have been restored to their status as of 23 December 2010. This means anyone who joined Craft after that date and before 2 March needs to sign up again.  In all regions the most recent version has been restored (2 March).

We have installed software to automatically save a daily copy of the grid database (rsync + rsnapshot).

Il 2 marzo, in fase di manutenzione del database si è verificato un grave errore sullo stesso rendendolo irrecuperabile, il database degli utenti e i loro inventari sono stati riportati alla data del 23 dicembre 2010. Questo significa che tutti coloro che si sono iscritti dopo tale data e prima del 2 marzo devono rieffettuare la registrazione.  In tutte le regioni è stata ripristinata la situazione piu' recente (2 marzo).

Abbiamo provveduto all'installazione di software per il backup automatico giornaliero del database centrale (rsync + rsnapshot).
